A big 'Hello' from everyone in the Guild.
We have had a very varied and successful session since the beginning of the year. Our numbers have increased and although we are a relatively small group, we manage to have very enjoyable meetings.
We started off in Jan with a 'welcome' tea party to which we all donated the goodies. Lots of chatter and laughter as we caught up. We then had our usual Scottish afternoon with 'in house' entertainment of Scottish music and poetry, followed by clootie dumpling and a cheese board (we always eat well!!)
Our next meeting was headed by our Minister, Eddie. What can I say that will tell you just how much we enjoyed his visit? He spoke of his life, reminding us of how much things have changed. Needless to say, he had everyone in stitches - we wish we could have him much more often.
We spent our next meeting making silk peony roses. Everyone coped so well with the intricacies of our craft afternoon, and had a peony rose to take home. Our following meeting was devoted to business, deciding dates and destinations for our annual outing, our visit to the Eros show and Easter arrangements.
At our most recent meeting we had Richard Paton from the R.N.L.I.- and how inspiring that was. It is hard to believe that everyone in the R.N.L.I. is a volunteer and that all equipment, rebuilding of boats, engine maintenance etc., is paid for by donations. We were all enthralled and Richard was bombarded with questions. What a shame there was only one gentleman present to enjoy it all.
Our next meeting on April 2nd is entitled 'The Village that Disappeared' and will no doubt bring back many memories to those of us who remember what the Mearns was like before dual carriageways, when we had a local dairy, and even Michael the cobbler. Nostalgia will be rampant! April 16th will be a Spring flower arranging class under the tutelage of Adele- always greatly enjoyed. April 30th is still 'work in progress', and on May 14th we have a visit from the Fire Service to update us on fire prevention.
May 28th is our A.G.M. When we will disburse what funds we have been able to make from our various projects. Our outing will be on 11th June, and our grateful thanks go to Tony Copsey who has volunteered to drive the mini coach for us.
In the week beginning 7th April we hope to set up stall in the hall vestibule selling Easter egg chickens and rabbits. All money made will go to our chosen charities, which will be listed in the next newsletter.
I would urge you to consider joining our Guild where you will be made very, very welcome. There are no glum faces at our meetings and laughter is never far away. We still adhere to Guild tradition with a hymn, Bible reading and prayer, feeling that this is important to our members.
Lastly, I would like to pay tribute to our Treasurer, Nancy Harrison. Since she joined the Church she has been a faithful member of the Guild, even providing cake for every meeting! Although things are difficult for her now and she is unable to attend the Guild, we know she will be back as soon as she can. In the meantime, Nancy you are in our thoughts and prayers, and we send you our love.
May we send to everyone Easter Blessings in abundance, and wish you all a very happy Summer
