For our Christmas charity donation the Session of Mearns Kirk has decided to donate to The
Aberlour Trust. The gifts they would appreciate this year are:
They would appreciate these gifts for all ages.
This article gives an idea of the services the Aberlour Trust offers to some of the poorest and most vulnerable in Scotland. Among the services offered in specific local areas are:
Poverty hardship funds (Tayside)
Through the delivery of intensive family services, supporting families from early intervention to ‘edge of care’ with practical, emotional and therapeutic support. The Hardship fund provides material / financial help for families with complex needs to alleviate financial pressures and improve wellbeing for the whole family, enhancing the wellbeing impact of our practical wholefamily support approaches.
Family advice and Community connections (Perth and Kinross)
FACCS, which is run by Aberlour Children’s Charity, provides early support and guidance to families in Perth and Kinross. They are a go-to resource for families seeking information, advice, and connections to other helpful services in their community. Any family with children under the age of 18 can reach out to their service directly for assistance.
How they help:
Glasgow Family Support Service
A family crisis can happen at any time. That’s why Aberlour’s Glasgow Family Support Service is there for families every day. They provide a range of accessible, community-based family support projects to help disadvantaged children, young people and families living in Glasgow.
How they help:
The families they work with need support for a range of reasons, such as poor emotional health and wellbeing, domestic abuse and drug and alcohol use. Their workers spend time with children, young people, parents and carers in order to understand what the family needs to thrive. They understand that family life can be difficult for all sorts of reasons. Their approach is always sympathetic and non-judgemental.
On a personal note as a member of the Glasgow Children's Panel, I totally support this initiative as the Trust provide support and help to the poorest and most vulnerable people in Glasgow and throughout Scotland.
