Now in its 30th year, The Friendship Club is still going strong. Around 60
members meet every second Tuesday afternoon in the Sullivan Hall, for
entertainment, a cuppa and cakes and a blether.

This year we’ve been lucky to have a new group of volunteers who are enjoying working alongside the more experienced helpers and getting to know the ropes. Janice has been providing home baking and has even been called upon to entertain at short notice.

We’ve had some fabulous entertainers over the past session with a wide variety of music giving us many opportunities to sing along and we’ve even had some folks up dancing! With only two more sessions to go in this year’s programme, we look forward to welcoming Alastair MacDonald on Tuesday 16th May.
Alastair is a well-known entertainer who used to appear regularly on TV when he co-hosted Songs of Scotland. The final session will be on Tuesday 30th May with “Music Box” booked for the entertainment.

On 2nd May, we had our annual outing with a delicious afternoon tea at The Eglinton Arms. While there we had the opportunity to share the wonderful news that Evelyn Humes has been selected as a “Coronation Champion” in recognition of her many years of loyal service to our church as a volunteer.
She is usually to be seen in the kitchen preparing the tea and coffee and keeping everything running smoothly. We congratulated Evelyn on her tremendous achievement and we gave her our very best wishes for her forthcoming trip to Windsor as a guest at the Coronation Concert.

Our volunteers are already planning for next session, seeking out entertainers and putting together our programme. We will be welcoming members, old and new, back after the summer on Tuesday 5th September. If you are interested in joining us, please contact Mearns Kirk Helping Hands.
